“It is the natural, fundamental right of parents and legal guardians to determine and direct the care, teaching, and education of their children. The public schools of this state serve the needs of the pupils by cooperating with the pupil’s parents and legal guardians to develop the pupil’s intellectual capabilities and vocational skills in a safe and positive environment.”

MEET YOUR CANDIDATE

Tommy Van Hill is driven to do his best and serve others. He has never cared for politics, but recent government overreach into individual freedoms, parental rights, and American values has led him to decide it is time to take action.

In 2021, Tommy began speaking at school board meetings to defend the rights of parents and students. He recently was elected as a precinct delegate for the 3rd Congressional District and feels called to run for school board. Tommy wants to ensure our kids have an education that is truly educational and not politically driven.

Tommy grew up in Grand Haven, graduated from GHAPS in 2005, and earned his Associates degree from Muskegon Community College in 2008. He planned to pursue architecture but changed course when the housing market crashed. He attended Grand Rapids Community College to acquire his Journey Man Tool and Die Maker Certificate and begin a career in metal stamping.

Tommy moved to Grand Rapids for work in 2009 and bought his first house, renting out 3 of his 4 bedrooms, and starting his entrepreneurship of being a landlord. He later bought a home downtown Grand Haven and moved back to the city he loved. With the opportunity of short-term rentals in Grand Haven, Tommy and his wife, Auri, bought an inexpensive boat to live on in the summers and rent the home out.

In 2019, Tommy and his wife started their family of four, which includes their two daughters. They sold their rental homes, with the equity supplying a great start for a home to raise their family in the Grand Haven school district.

Tommy works for Transfer Tool Products, a move he made after his former employer supported government overreach, following mandates that violated his conscience and convictions.

An avid reader, Tommy seeks to further his knowledge on God, investing, mindset, history, government and the Constitution. He and Auri attend Watermark Church and were baptized in 2018.

His newfound relationship with God and Jesus has put him on a dedicated life path. With the Constitution in one hand and a Bible in the other, Tommy humbly pledges to be a servant for the people.
